About dermal fillers
Dermal fillers are a clear, sterile, gel-like substance formed by cross-linking hyaluronic acid molecules which are injected under the skin to give a more youthful and enhanced look. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule found in all skin and soft tissues throughout the body.
Dermal fillers are used for treating:
- Volume loss
- Smoothing lines and wrinkles
- Firming
- Lip definition and volume
- Contouring
Dermal fillers provide instant results that are natural and efficacious, ranging from subtle to quite dramatic differences. Fillers can be used to hydrate, refine, refresh, remodel, restore and revolumise, as well as enhancing the shape, volume and hydration of lips, keeping them soft and natural.
The Procedure
A topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area at the start of the appointment. The area is then thoroughly cleansed and prepared prior to injection. Dermal fillers generally take between 30-40 minutes to administer using several injections. You can usually feel the initial injection, but the procedure shouldn’t be painful. At The Country Clinic, we only use premium hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, which contain 0.3% of lidocaine (a pain numbing agent). Due to the use of a needle, there is likely to be some bleeding at the injection site. Redness, swelling and bruising may occur during or after the procedure, and this may be associated with stinging, itching or discomfort upon pressure at the injection site. Depending on the area treated, this could last up to 2 weeks.
Recovery
Patients can expect to experience bruising, redness and swelling following any injectable procedure. Bruising and swelling can get worse before it gets better. These common side effects can last up to 2 weeks, therefore please ensure you time your treatment appropriately, so you have time to recover before any important social events or holidays you may have planned. To minimise side effects, reduce adverse reactions and maximise treatment results please adhere to the aftercare advice given to you following your treatment.
Recommended treatment frequency
The aesthetic effects of dermal filler products last up to 12 months, however, this can vary depending on the condition of the skin, area treated, amount of product injected, injection technique and lifestyle factors such as sun exposure and smoking.
