We are able to offer professional expert advice on how we can help you to achieve the results you want. Botulinum toxin is a prescription only medicine which can only be prescribed following a face-to-face consultation with a qualified medical professional. Taking a thorough medical history enables us to ensure that the treatment we provide is suitable and appropiate for you.
BOTULINUM TOXIN A
Botulinum Toxin A is a chemical produced by the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum. When injected into a muscle, the purified protein causes the muscle to become temporarily weakened and inactive. Fine lines and wrinkles are produced by using facial muscles repeatedly throughout a lifetime, such as frowning, smiling and raising your eyebrows. The ageing process causes the slowdown of collagen and elastin production in our skin, so that as we get older, these areas of over-use become damaged and the lines become permanent. Treating with Botulinum Toxin is very effective at reducing the dynamic activity of these muscles. Depending on the individual and the dose used, the response to the treatment can vary from relaxation of the muscles to an inability to move the muscle.
For the first couple of years, frequent treatments are required every 3-4 months to ‘re-educate’ the facial muscles.
Thereafter, treatments would be required less frequently until a yearly maintenance treatment is normally all that is required.
Areas commonly treated with Botulinum Toxin are:
Frown lines between the eyebrows
Please note it is not advisable to treat the frontalis muscle (forehead) in isolation as this can result in a ‘heavy brow’ or ‘brow drop’.
The procedure takes about 15 minutes. You will be asked to use certain facial muscles to allow the aesthetic nurse practitioner to observe how they work. An extremely fine, short needle is used to inject the Botulinum Toxin into the appropriate area. This may cause some slight, but brief discomfort. The treated area may have some minor redness and swelling, which usually resolves within 1-2 hours. You can expect to see the maximum effect 14 days post treatment, with muscle activity gradually returning from 8 weeks. Patients cannot be treated within 12 weeks of the initial procedure, but most return every 3-6 months.
At The Country Clinic we offer a complimentary review for all patients between days 14-21 after your anti-wrinkle treatment. This is an opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have, ask questions and to take post treatment photographs.
Dermal fillers are a clear, sterile, gel-like substance formed by cross-linking hyaluronic acid molecules which are injected under the skin to give a more youthful and enhanced look. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule found in all skin and soft tissues throughout the body. Dermal fillers are used for treating:
Smoothing lines and wrinkles
Lip definition and volume
Dermal fillers provide instant results that are natural and efficacious, ranging from subtle to quite dramatic differences. Fillers can be used to hydrate, refine, refresh, remodel, restore and revolumise, as well as enhancing the shape, volume and hydration of lips, keeping them soft and natural.
Dermal fillers generally take between 30-40 minutes to administer using several injections. You can usually feel the initial injection, but the procedure shouldn’t be painful. At The Country Clinic we only use premium hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, which contain 0.3% of lidocaine (a pain numbing agent). Due to the use of a needle, there is likely to be some bleeding at the injection site. Redness, swelling and bruising may occur during or after the procedure, and this may be associated with stinging, itching or discomfort upon pressure at the injection site. Depending on the area treated, this could last up to 2 weeks.
The aesthetic effects dermal filler products last up to 12 months, but will vary depending on the condition of the skin, area treated, amount of product injected, injection technique and lifestyle factors such as sun exposure and smoking.
